Necklace Chains Descriptions Part 2

Many of our favorite necklace chains actually have names for their specific designs. Here are 3 more popular neck chains and the description of their design to help you determine which one is right for your jewelry pieces.

Cable Chains - A cable chain is one of the most common and most basic neck chains that a man or woman can add to their jewelry wardrobe. They can be worn alone or with your favorite pendant or enhancer attached. They remind me of those paper chains we used to make during the holidays to decorate our home and holiday tree with. Each oval or circle is connected together in the opposite direction. They can be made from fashion jewelry metal, gold, sterling silver, stainless steel or even platinum.

Snake Chain - One of my favorite neck chains happens to be the snake chain because it is durable and so versatile. A snake chain is made up when the jeweler connects round metal rings, side by side. A snake chain feels very smooth against the skin and is very flexible. You mostly see snake chains in the female jewelry marketplace. You can wear the chain alone or with your favorite pendant or enhancer attached to it. Snake chains come in various metals so the prices can vary from super affordable to moderately expensive.

Ball Chain - I think most women and men have at least one ball chain in their jewelry box or at least have had one in the past. Many necklaces that you can purchase often come with a delicate sized ball chain. Just like the name implies, a ball chain is a series of round balls that have been connected to a chain. They can be made from various metals ranging from fashion jewelry metals up to the ultra chic platinum metal, so prices can vary widely. These types of chain are rarely worn alone and more often than not, they have a pendant attached to them.

Using these descriptions, you should be able to recognize and decide which neck chain is best for the jewelry piece you want to attach. Some chains are better than others for particular applications. They are all pretty in their own right and would look great in simple layers too.

Classic Types of Neck Chains

When buying chains to wear for men and women, you will run across so many different names for the style of the chain. Here is a breakdown of some of the classic, more well-known chains and what they look like to help you determine what style works for you.

Herringbone Chains - A herringbone neck chain is created when 2 or more rows of metal flat slats are connected together. This type of neck chain lays flat against the neckline and is highly reflective to light. You can find the in costume jewelry metal, gold, sterling silver, stainless steel and platinum. Prices vary greatly depending on the type of metal, length of the chain and the weight of metal used.

Curb Chains and Figaro Chains - You often see the curb chain in men's neck chains due to their thickness and weight, although you can find them in women's jewelry if they are more on they petite side. Figaro and Curb Chains are when oval links are connected together to form the neck chain. These oval links can be high polished, diamond-cut or a combination of the two.

Rope Chain - A rope chain can be found in both men's and women's jewelry. Men tend to like their ropes thicker and larger in size and women tend to like them delicate or moderate in size. Rope chains make great chains to suspend pendants from as long as the diameter of the chain fits through the pendant's opening. A rope chain is made when metal strands are twisted together to resemble a rope. They can be done in fashion jewelry metal, gold, sterling silver, stainless steel or in platinum. Prices vary greatly on rope chains depending on the materials, length and weight.

Box Chain - a box chain is one of the most popular chains for those who like to wear pendants on their neck chain. The chain is boxy in shape and very durable. You can find box chains in various lengths and thickness, and made from a wide variety of metals. We see more women than men sporting around box chains and prices can vary according to materials use to make the box chain.

We will be looking at several more chain styles in the coming weeks so you can be aware of all the different types and style to find the perfect chain just right for you and your fashion needs.

Tall Jewelry Boxes for Women: Best Styles for Necklaces

Jewelry boxes come in several different varieties and styles. However, when it comes to storing necklaces the best jewelry boxes are the tall ones. The reason for this is that you should store jewelry item in the same way you wear them. Necklaces hang around your neck, and they are best stored in a hanging position, which is very easy to do in tall jewelry boxes.

An example of an ideal jewelry box for necklaces is a tall cabinet for women in cherry finish. Measuring 38 3/4 inches high, 12 1/2 inches wide and 17 inches long, it is a piece of furniture that will add to the decor of any bedroom, as well as provide ideal storage for all kinds of jewelry.

This box has six drawers, twenty two double necklace hooks, concealed side closets, and is a perfect choice for someone with a large collection of necklaces.

If you want to get a tall jewelry box in a middle price range, and would like a black finish to match the decor of a bedroom then a good choice is the Black Java Jewelry Armoire.

It features a black java finish, a lift lid with an interior mirror, a top compartment with a central ring roll flanked by six open section. Four open drawers provide space for a wide variety of jewelry items and dual necklace doors open up with hooks for six necklaces on each side. Its cabriolet legs and scalloped front apron give it a French Provincial look.

A completely different look is found in the dresser top rustic antique walnut jewelry armoire. It is crafted in an upright armoire design, perfect for organizing necklaces. The twin necklace closet door fornts feature routed panel detailing and inside you will find three necklace hooks on each door plus twin interior catch panels.

This tall jewelry box armoire also features a lift lid with full interior mirror. The top compartment has centralized ring rolls and four additional open jewelry storage sections. The three drawers are open with no dividers and there is one drop down ring roll drawer for your beautiful rings.

As you can see from the three examples that I have given above, most of the tall jewelry boxes are usually in the armoire style. They provide tangle-free storage space for necklaces as well as space for a variety of other jewelry pieces, including rings, bracelets, earrings and pendants. You can choose a jewelry box with swing out sides or a necklace drop in a dresser top or floor standing design. A dresser top mini armoire or floor standing jewelry box armoire is the best solution to organize a large collection of jewelry, necklaces, and accessories.

If you are interested in a tall jewelry box out of consideration for necklace storage then you should also consider the number of hooks, and look for double hooks in dresser boxes and for double rows of hooks in standing armoires. If you consider the decor of the room where the jewelry box will be placed, and the type of jewelry in the collection you will be able to find the box that is just right for you or your gift recipient.

2 Fabulous Necklace Trends for Fall

One of the best statement pieces of jewelry, the necklace has proven itself over and over again in the fashion world and in our own jewelry box. There are so many different ways that we can use a necklace. We can use one to stand out in a crowd or to look professional. We can use them to look edgy and modern. How about romantic and ladylike?  Yes, there is a necklace for that too!

This fall, we are seeing some wonderful necklaces that will allow us to incorporate our statements to society. Here are 2 great necklaces that you need to look for and add to your favorites list. I know I am.

Trend #1:
One of the hot items trending right now is Initial Pendants in white or yellow metals. You can find them with or without gemstones. The Initial Pendant uses a rather large size pendant, measuring from 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" in length. This stand-alone initial is most preferred although having a circle, square, heart or rectangle engraved with your initials is also being seen too.

The majority of people wearing initial pendants wear the first name initial although some married women are wearing the initial of their last name. These look great when mixed with other necklaces or wearing them alone can be a lovely fashion piece. You will see them on long length chains, ribbons, and leather cording.

Trend #2:
Circle pendants also known as Eternity Pendants are another big trend for Fall 2011. You will find circle pendants with gemstones (real and faux) in a variety of metals like sterling silver, stainless steel, yellow gold, rose gold, white gold and platinum. If you are going to sport this trend look for circle pendants that are 2" to 3" in diameter and wear them on an 18" or 20" neck chain.

Both of these necklaces look stunning together or by themselves. The great thing about wearing pendants is that you can easily change the look by changing what it is worn on; cord, ribbon or chain. Necklaces are extremely versatile and that is why they are a great choice for your fall style.
